Impact

Helping cats not only saves lives, it helps the communities that care for them.

Full Circle Cats (then known as Feral Change) started as a small group of community members working together to spay and neuter cats in their neighborhoods.

Gathering data about our work has always been a big part of what Full Circle Cats does. It is compelling and informative to see of all the colonies across the East Bay where our volunteers have trapped or to track the changes in cat and kitten intake we have had over the past few years. It also helps us make the best use of our limited resources and maximize our impact.

In 2023, we provided spay/neuter surgeries for over 1,200 cats and rescued over 250 from the streets.

Dive deeper into our numbers, the stories, and the people behind them in our impact reports.

The most vulnerable cats and kittens

The statistics are staggering: an estimated 80% of cats born each year are born to unowned community cats. Of those born outside, a mere estimated 25% will survive past their first six months of life. Kittens are the most vulnerable population of community cats and early intervention is the key to saving their lives and preventing more suffering.

Full Circle Cats’ volunteers go above and beyond to rescue these kittens before time is up. Whether it be knocking down a wall in an abandoned building or helping a neighbor locate the soft cries in the bushes, we are prepared to help the most vulnerable of cats.

Our spay/neuter services have dramatically increased in the last five years

Spay/neuter has the most immediate impact on a cat’s life. It is essential healthcare for kittens and when practiced as part of a TNR program, it is the only proven approach to controlling the free-roaming cat population. Despite being an essential service, it is not easy to find timely and affordable spay/neuter. In the last five years the number of cats we have fixed has increased 122%. Between 2022 and 2023 our numbers increased 52%. This increase is a testament to how in demand and important access to spay/neuter is.

More than half of the requests for community cat support come from Oakland colonies

Full Circle Cats began in 2014 as a small group of trappers working in their Oakland neighborhoods. Oakland has continued to be where more than half of our TNR cats comes from. We’re grateful for our partnerships with Friends of Oakland Animal Services (FOAS), who generously sponsor some of the clinics for Oakland cats, and Island Cat Resources and Adoption (ICRA), who collaborate with us on these clinics.
